NATIONAL CITY, San Diego County — November 5, 2026. National City’s City Council District 1 election has a narrow gap in the publicly displayed unofficial results. Cindy Lopez has 758 votes (51.49%) to 714 (48.51%) for Luz Molina, making a difference of 44 votes, according to NBC San Diego’s county election table.
Why this district deserves attention
District councilmembers take part in decisions affecting neighborhood services, public spending, infrastructure and local policy. This particular vote is district-specific; it is not part of the tally for National City mayor, which was contested separately by Jose Rodriguez, Marcus Bush, Ruble Beauchamp and Jacobb Castrejon.
Small sample and remaining ballots
A difference of 44 votes is numerically small. It does not imply a recount has been ordered, nor that the final result will reverse. San Diego County’s remaining ballot processing and its verification requirements must be completed before the result is official.
Next reporting
Residents should check the official Registrar of Voters for the latest posted numbers and their update time. A media page may preserve a snapshot after the underlying county results have advanced; the numbers above are those reported in the cited public table, not a claim about every ballot eligible to be counted.
